Aladdin Kerosene Mantle Lamp

The Kerosene burning Aladdin Mantle Lamp with it's bright, clean, & quiet burning features, were developed in the 20's & 30's and manufactured into the mid 50's by the Mantle Lamp Co. of America and later called Aladdin Industries.

Natural Gas lighting and flat wick yellow flame lamps were the norm at the time and yet did not have the quality output that Aladdin came up with. Aladdin was a huge and highly successful lamp that came upon the scene at the time just before and during rural electrification mainly in the mid west in the 30's & 40's. Many were kept around for backup even after electricity arrived.

With it's unique, one of a kind burner with it's round wick and incandescent mantle, it has an output of nearly 60 watts, it it easy to see why this lamp gained in popularity so fast. Indiana, at the time had an abundance of natural gas reserves, which is why there was so many glass manufacturers including Aladdin in the state. Glass at the time was cheaper to make, as opposed to metal, and also led to all the beautiful designs that we see today.

Not only beautiful, but still very functional today, whether they are the old originals or the new ones still made by Aladdin today, Aladdin Lamps are great to have around for back up lighting when the power goes out, or even just a great soothing lamp to burn on a cool night in the fall or winter.
